As a young impressionable teenage, into ‘glam rock’ (Slade, Wizzard, Mud etc) Simon introduced me to serious grown up music. Led Zeppelin, Yes, Jethro Tull (to name just three).

As the years went on, I shared his passion for music. Whenever we met up it wouldn’t be long before he asked me “So cuz, what you listening to?” and that would be the signal to discuss the virtues of The Who (Tommy or Quadrophenia?) etc.

One of my favourite stories he told me was how he fell asleep during a Yes concert (I forgive him, after all it was the mind numbing ‘Topographic Oceans tour).

Si also introduced me to some great books. ‘First Life, Last Rights’ by Ian McEwan. Still one of my favourite writers.

Thanks Simon, I’ll miss you cuz. And remember, if it wasn’t for you I’d be listening to Ed Sheeran or Adele now
